Minority Report
Minority Report
Minority Report. Steven Spielberg. PG-13. 2002
In the year 2054 policemen in D.C. arrest people before they commit the crime for "precrime." The main character named John Anderton (Tom Cruise) is accused of a crime that he did not commit and realizes the flaws in the system of precrime.
The Video's Link
This movie is a classic dystopian society in which corporate control has taken over. The precrime agency appeals to people because they feel safe and believe there will be no more murder. This is because the company uses propaganda to influence the people knowledge on the program and its flaws. The main character then breaks away from the conformity of liking the program. This is because he is told he will murder someone that he does not even know. The director shows all this through the trailer.
The director uses a lot of dramatic clips with intense music. The clips at first show the character's early views and show how the gradually change through shots from the movie. Towards the end Anderton's possible love interest is taken away and the viewer feels bad for the main character. The shots are all very short and crisp. The trailer does not give away a lot about the movie but gives the basic plot really only through clips. The trailer also has a lot of dark scenes to show desolation and despair. This trailer is a good example of how we can do our dystopian trailer. In our trailer we can have a lot of clips that give a brief story plot while not giving away the movie. While doing this we can incorporate music in the background that gives a dramatic tone to our trailer.
